Pamukkale and Hierapolis

December 1st, 2009 by Tamra

PamukkaleOur last stop was Pamukkale. We stayed two nights at the Venus Hotel. From here it was an easy hike to the top of the travertine terraces and the ancient city of  Hierapolis.

Necropolis at Hieropolis

There is a lot to see at Hierapolis, but I liked the necropolis, the latrine, and, of course, the theater. This is a big site, so it took a long time to go through everything that we wanted to see.

Street and Latrine at Hieropolis

Theater at HieropolisWe spent another night at the Venus Hotel and left early in Friday morning for Istanbul. Friday was the first day of the Sacrifice Holiday, and we passed through several sheep markets and passed by many farms where sheep, and sometimes cows, were being slaughtered for the holiday.

It was a great vacation. I can’t wait to visit all these places again with you!
