There was a big storm here last weekend. Strong winds closed the Bosphorus to boats, sank a floating ferry building, and blew the screen door off our apartment. Someone told me that one way to tell that a storm is coming is that the air gets very clear. That seemed to be true. The day before the storm, everything on the Asian side of town was clear and distinct – houses, roads, cars. Usually it’s a pretty blue haze. The storm also canceled our trip to the Belgrade Forest to see the Ottoman waterworks that used to supply Istanbul with fresh water.
