Today, I’ll take you on a little walk from the school’s front gate to our apartment.
We are just inside the gate and headed toward the blue pedestrian sign. There is another school next door, the brick building on the right. On the left, out of the photo frame, are two teacher apartment buildings.

At the blue sign, there is a gentle slope that leads to the first set of stairs. Another teacher apartment building is on the right.

At the top of these steps, we cross the road and climb the second set of steps.

At the top of these steps, the path turns left and heads toward a little bridge that is a nice place to stop and catch your breath.

Right after these steps is another set of steps.

Now we come to my least favorite part of the path, a long slope, maybe 200 meters, that borders the road.

It’s kind of boring.

Your legs get sore. Finally, the next to last set of steps.

I call this the Broken Walk, because the walk was in bad condition this summer. It is fixed now. The last set of steps is in sight.

Mike found the fresh cement: M+T = ❥.

Ready for the last steps? It’s a double set that leads to the road.

Now we are at The Bridge. Here, the campus road crosses over another road that connects two neighboring villages. There is a guard house to the left, ATM machines across the way, a classroom building in the background.

Looking straight ahead from The Bridge is the main administration building. I think those are cats on the path. There are a lot of feral cats on the campus. We’ve been asked to stop feeding them so that they’ll move on.

At The Bridge, we turn right and walk along a road and parking lot. Students like to eat their lunches at these benches. At the end of the sidewalk is a thing called The Maze, but it looks more like an outdoor theater and sport court.

At the end of that sidewalk, we turn right and begin to climb again. This is where the Turkish director lives. She is in charge of everything that the American director is not.

At her house, we turn left.

At the top of the road on the right is another teacher apartment building. Our building is to the left. We are at the corner on the ground floor. Even though I admire Colin’s upstairs balcony, I am glad that I don’t have to climb more stairs.

Now you can sit down and rest.

A burro or llama would do the trick.
Certainly shows why the bicycle idea is a no go. How about a well balanced backpack instead of string backs. A shooting stick so you can sit down whenever you feel the need. You’ll be so fit maybe sometimes hungry for wanting to reduce grocery weight. Not so many canned and bottled items for sure.
So green. What a contrast to Egypt and NM. But that and topography is typical of Balkans.
Tortuous depends on
a) how hot it is
b) how much you are carrying
c) if it is raining
d) if you have company
I love this post. I can feel how long and tortuous the climb can be!
