Several things collided here. I wanted to do a book review of The Hakawati which I am reading for Global Voices Book Challenge. Then there was the metaphysical prompt from Read Write Poem plus their random writing tip of five uses for a spoon!
The Hakawati
What was dipped into the steaming bowl
that caused Fatima’s carpet to rise,
what stirred her imps to masquerade as parrots
and prophets, whatever
measured wisdom and bravery for
the slave king, what brought
the story of Osama to the storyteller’s lips,
that is dipped into me now. Laughter
and language fill my spoon, and I,
sipping my soup,
gain one more day.

nice…”languuage fill my spoon” very good
This is so elegant. I love how the focus on the spoon connects the images and carries this along to end with a bowl of soup.
